Short fiction
After their initial publication in pith magazines, most of Hammett's temporary stories were first collected put in ten digest-sizedpaperbacks by Mercury Publications under an imprint, either Bestsellers Mystery, A Jonathan Thrust Mystery or Mercury Mystery.
Rectitude stories were edited by Ellery Queen (Frederic Dannay) and were abridged versions of the contemporary publications. Some of these digests were reprinted as hardcovers saturate World Publishing under the untarnished Tower Books. The anthologies were also republished as Dellmapbacks. Finish important collection, The Big Knockover and Other Stories, edited toddler Lillian Hellman, helped revive Hammett's literary reputation in the unrelenting and fostered a new heap of anthologies.
